I am still content after 23 years living and working in my Victoria home/studio by the sea. I didn't get down to the business of making art until I was 40. Feeding my need to experience life by marrying too young, travelling in a rock band and living abroad in Great Britain, Europe and Japan. I was a gypsy at home on land or sea.

I grew up in the new suburbs of Calgary in a very active family. Recollections of art from the Glenbow Museum’s sales and rentals program hanging on our walls are vivid. Great classical and jazz music played on the stereo. Credit goes to my family of pragmatists and professionals with a broad based view of life and some balance to my esoteric nature both of which contribute to my making a practical living with my hands.

Having tried a number of different careers; sales management, fitness and teaching I enrolled at Victoria College of Art. After 2 years ready to snap brushes, burn canvasses and withdraw tuition fees I opened a box of cheap soft pastels while sitting at anchor in Oak Bay, Victoria. Their immediacy and alluring ability to function as both a drawing and painting medium hooked me. I set my sights on working as an artist and graduated Victoria College of Art: VCA & Associate Diplomas. The west coast which seemed a place where abnormal people appeared normal would be an ideal home.

In addition to my gallery work I have taught in Japan and Canada: Canmore and Red Deer, Alberta and throughout B.C., Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Chosen by the Painters Lodge and Painter’s artists I became a Life-time Resident Artist in 2002. I am one of 16 west coast artists featured in the International Artist Publication ‘Design Composition -Secrest of Professional Artists.’

Winchester Galleries, Victoria, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria Sales and Rentals represent my work. My pastel paintings are held in Private collections throughout Canada, the United States and Japan.
